Measures 48x48 mm (1 7/8" x 1 7/8") fully extended each ring measuring around 11 mm (7/16") diameter. Incredible and very rare fragment of chain-maille armor! Made of iron and beautifully-preserved, the rings still connected, the whole piece still flexible. L: 106 mm (4 1/8"), excellent state of preservation and still sharp! Ex-Clearwater, FL collection. Still held together by the original rivets, some original leather joints on the knuckles. Mostly intact, with some age perforations, and the small finger pieces missing, common for armor such as this. Etched with designs and roped panels, outer edge with file roped bead. Intact with huge barbs and long socketed bodt, with a corkscrew-shaped twist at the top designed to break off when the weapon penetrated its target. Extremely well-preserved! Professionally conserved, with nice black patina with some brassy areas showing through. It was intended to be carried as a simple side-arm for close hand-to-hand combat. This is exactly the form it would have originally had, without inlays or pommel grip. Simple, sleek form with a triangular-shaped blade made for penetrating between the rings of chain maille or at the joints of plate armor.
